Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec are two brothers with divergent personalities but united by a common passion: design and architecture. The older, Erwan, is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, and the younger, Ronan, is a graduate of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts de Cergy-Pontoise. Together, they joined forces in 1999 to imagine pieces that were the fruit of polarised and then reconciled ideas. Designing spaces and furniture for big names such as Issey Miyake or Samsung, the Bouroullec brothers have now extended their work to the design of larger objects, spatial architecture, and videos and photographs, and are exhibited in the most renowned museums in Europe.

Having grown up in a rural and maritime environment, the Bouroullec brothers infuse their creations with a Breton touch and an economy of means. The simplicity of their designs makes them both refined and sometimes mysterious. But simplicity doesn't mean ease. Each project undergoes meticulous study and unfolds through a profound dialogue between the two brothers. "We have a deep understanding of each other: intuitive and natural. Yet, we are different, and perhaps therein lies the crucible of a project's richness."

The closed bed was conceived as a cabin. It takes on the appearance of a room despite being a piece of furniture. Limited to just twelve units, the closed bed has revolutionized the world of decoration with its singularity and ingenuity.

The Vegetal Chair stands out as one of the most iconic creations in their collection. Launched in 2008, this chair embodies organic and natural aesthetics while incorporating contemporary elements.

Its appellation, derived from the relief pattern adorning its surface, reminiscent of the texture of leaves or branches. Crafted in polyamide, this chair signifies a remarkable fusion of modern manufacturing technology and organic inspiration. The chair's form also evokes the natural growth and development observed in nature.

The Bouroullec brothers draw much inspiration from the outdoors for their creations. Concerned about protecting the environment, they place nature at the heart of their projects. This results in sometimes surprising furniture, such as a candelabrum with multiple branches placed in a garden with a forest-like appearance. The wrought iron coat stand, nicknamed the night valet, with its legs and long arms, takes on a human-like appearance in a minimalist setting.

Over the years, the Bouroullec brothers have also demonstrated their talent in architecture with the Floating House.

Inaugurated in 2007, this residence for artists is directly in contact with the water, allowing for total immersion in nature. It was created to celebrate the ten years of the National Center for Prints and Printed Art in Chatou, in the Yvelines. This project is certainly also a tribute to the Breton roots of the Bouroullec duo.
